Construction of Jurf and Saay Channels in Duqm

The brief summary of the project:

Jurf and Saay Channel Project includes the construction of 22 km long trapezoid sectional drainage channels in total. Jurf Channel flows from west to south, and then turns west and ends at the sea.

Jurf Channel designed with a variable bed width of 340 m to 650 m. Saay Channel flows south to north till the junction with Jurf channel and designed with a variable bed width of 90 m to 320 m. The JV was operating as a part of the project a crushing operation at Duqm with capacity of over 2 Million Tons per year with 4 products outpu

The crushing operation comprised of a stationary, as well as mobile crushing operations. This operation was extensively studied and designed for this project requirements and needs.

The scope of work includes the following major components

  • Excavation of approximately 17,000,000 m³ material
  • Placing and levelling 15,400,000 m³ material
  • Embankment Construction and Structural Fill works 1,200,000 m³
  • Providing Gabion erosion protection;
  • Provide riprap upstream protection and gravel downstream protection as indicated;
  • Provide invert protection to channels where indicated;
  • Design and construction of culvert.
  • Construction of compacted platforms using excess spoil form excavations
  • Construction of temporary track road giving access to the construction site. As of January 2018, 697 employees were working and 36 excavators, 20 loaders, 16 dozers, 17 graders, 160 trucks, 15 rollers and various heavy equipment were allocated on site.
